IT ALL STARTED THE DAY I DIED.

I’ve been involved in sports and fitness all my life, and when I was 13yrs old I experienced a debilitating accident that left me for dead. And I did die… twice.

I will spare you the gory details, but when I finally came to I was told if I was lucky enough to fully recover my movement abilities it would be forever laboured, my brain trauma would likely trigger early dementia and my body would have arthritis by the time I hit 40. 

It took me a year to regain my mobility. At 14 I was living with pain and movement issues I then had to deal with for most of my young adult life. As I hit my late teens I was determined to prove wrong the predictions made of my future.

I begun on a journey to do more… of everything.   I told myself surely being highly active, would keep me healthy and strong. I was doing high intensity activities, I got into more sports, personal training - I knew all this was going to help my body heal and feel better... right? Wrong.  

As the years went on my over active lifestyle wasn’t helping. My aches and pains got worse and worse and I even developed what some called a ‘rude boy swagger’! - I got more into personal training and carried on. I enjoyed my active lifestyle and it made me feel strong and happy.

Then out of the blue in my early 30s I suffered a severe strain in my back so paralysing I couldn’t believe it. I was only out playing with my young kids and running around - WHAT WAS GOING ON?! - WHY did it happen?! This was the opposite of what I was predicting.

THE LESSON LEARNED

What I learnt that day was that overloading and over demanding from a broken body was not only NOT helping, but it was creating and accelerating damage, making things much much worse. My pain management and perceived strength was simply masking the core underlying functional issues I had and I realised that to be truly fit and strong I needed to start again. I had to start by addressing the deep root causes of the issues. I learnt that working to improve my body’s natural foundational movement was the key from which I could build true strength and live with vitality. It was so simple.  

As I started down a path of self managed physical recovery, I became fully immersed as a researcher. I read hundreds of books, listened to endless podcasts, watched endless talks and attended many seminars. I was hungry to learn and during that process I came to realise there were a myriad of other issues I had been living with - but had been completely ignoring… brain health, gut health, mental health, neurological health, physiological health… This was another turning point for me.

I realised that for my body and my wellness it was not about fixing one thing or another, one aspect does not function in isolation of the others. It was all connected and to achieve optimal health and wellbeing I needed to address my body as one whole interconnected machine.

IT’S NEVER TOO LATE

Now in my late 40s I feel and move better than I ever did since that day when I was 13yrs old. No swagger, no pain, no memory issues no erratic emotions or gut issues. I even got asked for I.D. the other day for a bottle of wine! Ha! No joke! And the arthritis? None.

So now with regular well informed maintenance my overall health and physical fitness efforts are fully effective and with a focus on more preventative principles I aim to live happy, and with a spring in my step, well into my golden years…   

This experience led me to develop a deep empathetic connection to those also striving for their wellbeing. I am driven and focused to helping others along on their journey by being their guide and coaching them through it all.

The more I learnt the more I felt compelled to share the knowledge and improve others’ quality of life with it. I was living proof of what incredible results could be achieved and how much even deeply developed biochemical issues could also be reversed and rebalanced.

HELPING YOUR BODY BE STILL

When your body feels at ease and you move without pain or issues, life can be that much more fun. By committing to addressing the root cause of issues your body’s resources are not being depleted and you in turn don’t feel drained - instead you begin to feel more naturally energised overall.

You might think ‘moving well’ is not strictly a ‘health driver’… but in my view it is essential to health. Our bodies were meant for moving. It enables and engages all our biomechanics, it enables our biological systems to work, prevent injury, pain and aches appearing and overall it contributes to enjoying life all that much more. Feeling free to move and do the things you want, more often and without pain or limited movement is the key to maintaining a youthful energy to life.

I take huge pride in being able to help my clients improve their health and wellbeing. And I feel lucky to work in collaboration with Naturopaths, Physiotherapists, GPs, and other practitioners to ensure my clients feel guided towards where to start, who to see, what to aim for - it all increases my client’s ability to succeed in achieving their goals.
